Product information "Graptolite: Didymograptus murchisoni (BECK), GB"

Several graptolites of the species Didymograptus murchisoni (BECK), preserved on a slate slab.
A particularly beautiful piece with many important characterizing details.

Graptolites were colony-forming filter feeders that developed organic exoskeletons. Their imprints are typical for the Ordovician and Silurian. The first forms were sessile, the later ones, like this one, floated in the water. They were long thought to be extinct until the deep-sea creatures Rhabdopleura were recognized as graptolites a few years ago.

Age: Ordovician;
Locality: Aberreidi Bay, Pembrokeshire, "Central Wales Coast", Wales
Size: slab: 10 x 6 cm, graptolites: approx. 1 cm

Colors on photos may differ from the original piece for technical reasons.
The pictures serve as an example, you will receive a single item of comparable quality.
