Lapis lazuli is one of the first gemstones to be used in jewelry. Although there is no general agreement on the age of the earliest finds, it is certain that this stone was already highly valued in Ancient Egypt. A lapis lazuli scarab was found in the burial chamber of young King Tutankhamun.
