Product information "Radiolites, Rudist, Cretaceous, FRA"

Rudist, even if it doesn't look like it at first glance, this specimen is a fossil clam.

Radiolites was a reef-building rudist, a type of heterodont clam. Because the lower shell quickly grew in height, it was able to filter clearer water before competitors took its place. It needed hard substrates on which to grow - including other rudists, which is why new reefs also formed in this way.

Age: Cretaceous
Locality: France
Size: approx. 5 - 7 cm
